Business Insider (BI) published a post with the 50 most violent cities in the world. It shows San Pedro Sula (Honduras) is the number one with 171.20 homicides per 100,000 residents.
I was staggered to find that Brazil leads the list when one adds up the number of cities per country (see the attached graph). Besides, the list has cities belonging only to Americas and Southern Africa. Please note that the violence is not exclusive to Latin America, because US has 8% of the list.
Drug trafficking, gang wars, political instability, corruption, and poverty are among the main reasons. It seems that we have a long way to go before we are able to live a non violent society.
